How to start a blog and earn income from it

Starting a blog is not rocket science. Many people have created successful blogs and earned money with it. In this article I will be showing you the steps you should take to start your own blog.

1. Choosing a niche: Choosing a niche for your blog is a very important step to take before venturing into blogging. There are many sites on the internet with various niches which range from finance, health, entertainment and others.

There are various ways you could find a niche for your blog. One of them is knowing what you love talking about, or your hobby. If you're a football fan, then go for a sport niche. If you like updates about celebrities, go for an entertainment niche. Likewise, if you're a religious person, go for a religion niche.

2. Finding a blogging platform: There are various blogging platforms to choose from. A good example is Blogger which I'm currently using now. It is owned by Google and it's a very flexing blogging platform. Best of all, the hosting is free. We also have WordPress, the hosting isn't free so you have to pay for it.

Another way is coding a website from scratch. It seems like a hassle, but some people prefer it to using a blogging platform. Whichever one suits you, you can go for it.

3. Using a good domain/hosting company: When blogging, it is good to have a custom domain for your blog. Having a custom domain makes your blog look more professional and it also makes it easier for your readers to remember your blog url. It's also good to use the same name on your blog on your url.

Now, more about choosing a custom domain for your blog. There are many hosting platforms. Good examples are Blogger and WordPress. Blogger is a free hosting platform so you only need to buy a domain. If you're going for WordPress, you need to buy a domain and hosting.

Another thing is to choose a good domain/hosting company for your blog. There are many buy you need to choose the right one. A good example is namecheap and Bluehost. They sell domain and hosting at affordable prices.

4. Monetizing your blog: Monetizing your blog is a very important aspect in your blog. This means putting advertisements on your blog and earning revenue depending on the number of traffic/visitors you get and clicks on your ads. There are a lot of good advertising companies.

A good example is Google Adsense, and it's one of the most popular ad networks. We also have Adsterra, propeller, Mgid, the table and the rest. You just have to pick the one that suits you. Ad networks are not the only way to make money from your blog.

Another way is affiliate marketing and sponsored posts. Affiliate marketing is when you put products on your blog which is related to your niche. You earn a commission when someone buys a product with your affiliate link.

Sponsored posts are when someone pays you to put up an advertisement post on your blog. Depending on your negotiation with your client, the time duration which in which the ads stay on your site can range from days to weeks, months or even years

5. Driving traffic to your blog: Before you even begin to think about monetizing your blog, driving traffic to your blog is a very important step. Take for example, you've signed up with an advertising company, you've gotten the ad codes and put them on your blog. If you don't get any traffic to your blog, you'll earn little or nothing.

There are many ways to drive traffic to your blog. A very good example is Search Engine Optimization. Search Engine Optimization is the process of making your blog article show up in search results when someone searches for something. SEO is a somewhat complicated process, but if you invest time in learning it, it will definitely pay off in the end.

Another way to drive traffic is through social media. You shouldn't keep all your hopes on SEO. If something goes wrong or you don't implement the SEO correctly, your blog might not show up in Google search results. This is when social media comes in.

If you want to get traffic to your blog from social media, you have to create a social media page for your blog. There are many social media platforms you can do this with. A good example is Facebook. Facebook is one of the most popular social networks.

If you use Facebook, create a social media page for your blog and try to get followers to the page. If it seems like a hassle, you can pay a page with a lot of followers to promote your own page. Or better still, you can run ads on Facebook to make your page reach more people. You need to have a reasonable amount of traffic on your blog every day or month before you can earn good income.

Conclusion

Starting a blog now is not a bad idea at all, you don't need to think too much about it. All you need to do is a little research based on all I said above. When you've equipped yourself with enough knowledge, you can now create your blog, share your passion or things that you love to do and start earning.

One last thing. If you're finding it too difficult to find your way around blogging, you can ask for help from people who started before you. I know a lot of nice pro bloggers that will be willing to help and guide you. Also, when you start a blog, there will be a lot to handle like growing your traffic, errors on your site, problem with your ads, content writing and the rest.

If you think you can't handle it alone, you can form a team with people in which different people will handle different aspects of the blog based on their expertise.
